A Florida man visiting family in Potomac shot himself in the face on Monday, April 2, according to police.
The victim, Martin Jay Posner, 59, was alive and being treated for the injury, which police described as critical as of the afternoon of Tuesday, March 3, but no further details of his condition were available.
Posner lives in North Miami, Florida and was visiting family in the area at the time of the incident, said Lucille Bauer, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Police.
It is not known if the self-inflicted wound was accidental or intentional.
"I think it is reassuring to the community that no one else is in danger," said Bauer.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to an emergency call at the home in the 10500 block of Gainsborough Road around 11 a.m. on April 2 and found Posner conscious. He was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division.
