<sh>Vanderhye to Participate in Three Candidate Forums
<bt>Margaret “Margi” Vanderhye, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 34th District Virginia House of Delegates seat, will participate in three candidate forums in the coming weeks. Details of the forums are as follows: Dulles Area Democrats Candidate Forum on Monday, April 16 at Amphora’s Diner, 1151 Elden Street in Herndon. <sh>Festival of Great Falls Authors at Great Falls Library
<bt>On Saturday, April 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Friends of the Great Falls Library will host its second annual “Festival of Great Falls Authors.” The program will feature four published writers from Great Falls, who will share with the audience their books, as well as their insights on writing and publishing. This free event is open to the public and will be held in the Great Falls Library conference room, which has accessibility for the disabled.
<sh>Book-Making Workshop at Great Falls Library
<bt>Great Falls Studios artist Linda DeBoer-Wilcox will lead a hands-on book-making workshop for all ages on Saturday, April 21, at 10:15 a.m. at the Great Falls Library, located at 9830 Georgetown Pike. Children, grandchildren, parents and friends are all welcome. Participants will make a simple book and two pop-up cards. While the children decorate the book and cards, the adults will go on to make a small book with a hand-made paper cover. DeBoer-Wilcox will discuss her plans for an art book based on her recent trip to Rajastan, India. The workshop is free as it is supported by the Friends of the Great Falls Library. <sh>Langley Lacrosse Equipment Drive
<bt>The Langley High School womens’ lacrosse teams are collected used and new, boys’ and girls’ used lacrosse equipment for donation to the Winners Lacrosse program. Winners Lacrosse brings the sport of lacrosse to under-served areas of Washington D.C. Donations may be dropped off at Langley High School on April 29, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Collection boxes will also be available at home games on April 20 and April 24. <sh>Gunman Loses Mask in Vienna Bank Robbery
<bt>One of two masked gunmen was unmasked while robbing employees at a bank in the Vienna area, last Friday, April 13. The robber took place at approximately 10:45 a.m. at the Access National Bank located at 8233 Old Courthouse Road. According to Fairfax County Police, one of the suspects forced three employees into a back room while the other suspect made two tellers lie on the floor. The first suspect then attempted to climb over the teller counter but his mask came off and his face was caught on camera. He replaced his mask, climbed over the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money from the teller windows. The pair then fled on foot. No one was injured. Police described the suspects as black men, wearing all black clothing, ski masks and armed with black handguns. The first suspect is estimated to be between 6 feet 1 inches and 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a medium to heavy build and wearing a black cap, white gloves and black Timberland boots. The second suspect was described as having an average build and being of average weight.
