Last August, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office charged Penderbrook's Charles McMillion with one felony count of threatening to bomb the county's government center, plus other misdemeanor offenses.
The grand jury later indicted him on the felony charge. McMillion, 43, appeared last Monday, April 9, in Loudoun County Circuit Court. But instead of having a jury trial as was initially planned, he entered pleas.
His felony count was dropped. However, McMillion was convicted of three misdemeanors and given a suspended sentence, plus probation.
At the time of his arrest, the Sheriff's Office stated that a man had called someone at the county Treasurer's Office, Aug. 1, 2006, around 2:30 p.m., and said his home and wages had been garnished and he was upset.
According to a court document written by Sheriff's Investigator Shannon Coderre, the caller said "he had just left an explosive device in the government center." The building was evacuated and searched for several hours and no explosives were found.
Believing McMillion was the caller, the Sheriff's Office arrested him Aug. 24. In court last week, the charge of threat to bomb was dropped. But McMillion pleaded guilty to making a threatening call, disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice.
Judge Herman Whisenant sentenced him to 12 months in jail and suspended all that time. He also placed McMillion on two-years, supervised probation.
