"Salon Eight Presents: an Exhibition of Painting," a new art exhibit featuring landscapes, still life's and an array of botanical subjects will be on display at the American Horticultural Society's River Farm, 7931 East Boulevard Drive, from Sept. 6–Jan. 4. The show includes work by eight locally-known artists, working in different media, who share in common the artist's passion for interpreting personal perceptions through expressive choice of color, line, form, composition, and perspective. Enamelists Gallery Studio 28 presents Dorothea Stover's mini show "Explorations" through Sept. 2. Scope Gallery Studio 19 presents "Decorative Techniques" from Aug. 27-Sept. 30. The exhibit, presented by the Ceramic Guild, includes a pictorial and educational presentation of a variety of decorative techniques used to enhance clay surfaces, accompanied by examples of work that demonstrate the techniques. Del Ray Artisan’s new exhibit "Mashup! Solos and Collaborations" runs through Aug. 26 at the Nicholas A. Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave. The exhibit features pottery, jewelry, monoprints and more. There will also be a raffle of some of the artwork. 703-838-4827.

The Alexandria Black History Museum has a new exhibit titled "Portraits of Black Music: Photographs by Jonathan B. French and Edward C. Keith III." See an exhibit of Plein Air Paintings by students of artist Sara Linda Poly through Sept. 2 at River Farm, 7931 East Boulevard Drive. These works have been created over the past two years by visiting River Farm and painting landscapes. They are on display and available for sale.

In recognition of the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, the exhibition "Jamestown, Establishing English America" is now open at The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, 201 S. Washington St. Many rare books are featured, including a copy of "Lucilentissima" by Johann Schöner. Museum visitors will also see a first edition of Captain John Smith’s account "The History of Virginia," published in 1624 and featuring the first map showing the name and location of the Jamestown Colony. Del Ray Artisans seeks submissions from all art media for the September All-Member Art Show.
