Getting To Know... Chelsea Sklar

This National Merit Scholar talks about her plans for the future.

Chelsea Sklar is the recent recipient of a National Merit Scholarship. A 13-year resident of Arlington, she graduated from Yorktown High School this spring and will attend the University of Southern California in the fall, where she also received a scholarship.

Arlington Connection: Why did you choose USC?

Chelsea Sklar: I felt that USC was the most spirited school I was accepted to. It is a very tight community.

AC: Have you chosen a major?

CS: I am completely undecided at this point.

AC: What are your personal goals?

CS: I would like to find a career that I am passionate about as early in life as possible.

AC: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you "grew up?"

CS: I’ve always liked the idea of blending fields. I think I told those who asked that I wanted to be a duck-doctor-painter-chef.

AC: What is the last book you read/the last movie you watched?

CS: Harry Potter and Harry Potter.

AC: What community "hidden treasure" do you think more people should know about?

CS: Ballyhoo!, conveniently located near the theaters behind the fountains in Courthouse Plaza, sells promotional products of all kinds — from t-shirts to USB drives and from embroidery to screen-printing. They can personalize almost anything for your team or place of employment. They are extremely friendly and flexible and will work with you to make sure you can walk away with the product you had imagined.

AC: If you were to take a road trip anywhere right now, where would you go?

CS: I would like to visit Maine — I’ve never been.
