The Virginia Economic Development Partnership recently announced the acceptance of five new companies into the Accessing International Markets export development program. The program, launched by VEDP in December 2005, helps Virginia companies pursue international leads in a new market overseas and realize the benefits of exporting. Based on a competitive quarterly application process, 20 companies will be accepted into the AIM program each year.

The five Virginia companies selected to participate in the March 2007 AIM class include Control Case in McLean and Northstar Express in Falls Church. Markets to be pursued by the new AIM participants include countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

BB&T recently announced it has promoted Mike Carpenter to manage its residential real estate lending team for the metro Washington, D.C., area.

The 12-member team, located in Woodbridge, Va., also will include BB&T residential construction specialists Mike Williams, Jason Paxton, Keri Jackson and Rob Lane.

A senior vice president, Carpenter has more than eight years of commercial banking and real estate lending experience, most recently as a regional executive with BB&T in Tysons Corner. Williams, assistant vice president, has more than eight years of real estate finance experience, most recently with BB&T’s commercial real estate finance team in Tysons Corner.

A combined 14 companies from across Virginia recently graduated from two state export programs, where they learned tips to export products and services overseas. Four companies graduated from VEDP’s Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) program, including Rowe Furniture, Inc. of McLean.

Goodman & Company recently hired Eric B. Crowder as associate in the Tysons Corner Office, effective Aug. 6. Crowder is a graduate of Longwood University with a bachelor of science in accounting and is pursuing a masters in accounting from American University. Crowder previously worked with Goodman & Company as an intern in 2006 and is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
