Newspaper Editor Dies in Fairfax

Independent’s Editor Dies at 70

The editor and co-owner of the Loudoun Independent newspaper died Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

John Jay Geddie, 70, was the former editor of the Loudoun Easterner. When the Loudoun Easterner was sold in 2004, Geddie went on to help found the Loudoun Independent.

Geddie is survived by his wife, Shannon H. Geddie of Sterling; his son, John L. Geddie of Reston; and his brother, Michael Geddie of Texas.

A viewing was held at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, Tuesday, Aug. 28. The service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m.

The family requested donations be made to the Salvation Army in Leesburg in lieu of flowers.
