Twice each school year, Sangster Elementary School provides nonprofit agencies the opportunity to make their services known to the school community via an envelope sent home with students. Nonprofits may send a flier for approval by the principal Sept. 12, and must provide a volunteer to stuff the envelopes at the school sites Sept. 17, 18 and 19. Envelopes sent home Sept. 20. Sydenstricker United Methodist Church's TOT Preschool is registering for the 2007-08 school year. Half-day classes for 3- and 4-year-olds are offered two, three and five days a week. Music, German language and "In house" field trips supplement a developmental learning program. Children/teacher ratios are 12:2 in the 3-year-old class and 15:2 in the 4-year-old class. The Lancer Leaders are Lee High School seniors who offer mentoring services to freshman students. Freshmen who wish to be paired with a Lancer Leader senior mentor can e-mail susan.cox@fcps.edu.

Christian Weekday Program, a NAEYC accredited preschool program of Springfield United Methodist Church, accepts registrations for the 2007-08 school year. The Leslie Sherman Memorial Scholarship is being established at West Springfield High School in memory of Sherman, a graduate of West Springfield who died April 16 at Virginia Tech. To contribute to that Scholarship Fund, write a check to West Springfield High School, with "Leslie Sherman Memorial Scholarship" in the memo line or attached to a letter designating that purpose, and send to West Springfield High School, Finance Office, 6100 Rolling Road, Springfield, VA 22152. St. John’s Center for Early Childhood Education takes registration for the 2007-2008 school year. Located at 5312 Backlick Road, Springfield, the center offers classes for 2-, 3- and Pre-K 4-year-olds, with before- and after-school care for children in grades K-5. Call 703-256-7748 for more.
