Council To Adjust Pay Plan

The Herndon Town Council voted to approve an amendment in the Fiscal Year 2008 Adopted Budget, in order to amend the pay plan for certain town positions.

According to Linda Simmons, herndon’s director of human resources, amending the salary schedule for the positions would have a $3,000 impact on FY2008. She said the increases in the salaries at the positions are not automatic for the incumbents, but are subject to approval through an evaluation process. The adjustments could be funded through the FY2008 vacancy savings.

Vice Mayor Dennis Husch said the amendment is a result of an extensive salary survey. It is designed for the town to maintain parity in salary structure with neighboring jurisdictions and employers, "So we can continue to attract the best and brightest to Herndon," said Husch.

Mayor Steven DeBenedittis echoed Husch’s comments at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday night, Dec. 11. "We want to continue to attract the same caliber of people we have here," said DeBenedittis.

The positions impacted — higher salaries — would include the director of human resources, director of information technology, director of public works and chief of police among others.
