George Washington Celebration Photography Contest

The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee is pleased to announce its fourth annual photo contest. The contest is designed to highlight the wonderful memories of the Committee’s events celebrating George Washington’s birthday in February.

All types of photographers are invited to enter including amateurs, professionals, teens and children under 12. It’s absolutely free to enter and entrants can submit up to five photos to win prizes and recognition at our community reception in the spring in Alexandria City Hall! Photos entered should reflect the spirit of George Washington and may focus on any topic related to the celebration events. We welcome your old photos from past GW events too! Photos entered in the “Historic” category need to be at least ten years old. No matter how old of new your photo is, it must be submitted as a “hard copy”. At this time, we can not accept digital images.

Photos should be submitted between February first and March 31, 2007. A complete listing of rules and categories can be found on the photo contest submission page. Efforts to get the word out about the contest are underway. Application flyers with contest rules can be picked up at the Alexandria Recreation Centers, Alexandria libraries and some local camera shops that want to support the cause of photography and help to the celebrate the birthday of our hero, George Washington! In addition, our parade marshals will be passing out photo contest application flyers to spectators during the parade, so look for them! An entry form can also be found on the George Washington’s Birthday Celebration Committees web site: www.washingtonbirthday.net

If you are a photographic professional that would interested to help to judge our photos in April, we’d like to hear form you! Send a message to Anne Haynes at annehaynes@comcast.net
