The head of Loudoun Tax Justice has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for the Board of Supervisors' Broad Run district seat.
Jack Ryan, who lives in Ashburn Village with his wife and two children, announced his intention to run Dec. 18.
"The tremendous amount of public support for my candidacy to change the status quo has led me to seek this office," he said in a press release. "The support in my district has been overwhelming."
Supervisor Lori Waters (R) currently holds the Broad Run seat, but has not indicated whether she will seek a second term in office.
AS CO-FOUNDER of Loudoun Tax Justice, a citizen group dedicated to influence fair tax policies in the county, Ryan said his main concern is the county's taxes.
"The pattern of annual double-digit tax increases and the slow down of economic activity in Loudoun County is unacceptable," he said.
Ryan, who was also once director of the National Taxpayers Union and is a member of the county's Financial Performance Audit Committee, said he plans to look closely at the county's spending habits.
"We need to be respectful of taxpayers and demand to know where is the money going?" he said.
Ryan opposed the transportation bonds that were approved on the Nov. 7 ballot, saying road construction is the responsibility of the commonwealth or developers.
"To tax us twice for roads and take away precious resources from schools and public services for transportation studies is poor public policies," he said. "I think we should demand Richmond give us back our fair share."
