The Fairfax County Park Authority has recently acquired eight parcels of land totaling 33 acres. With the addition of this acreage to its holdings, the Park Authority now owns 23,717 acres of parkland, or 9.4 percent of the land mass of the county. On May 16, 2006, the Park Authority received a gift of 0.9313 acres of land located in the Dranesville District. The property was given to the citizens of Fairfax County by The Young Group, Inc. and Peter O’Meara. The donation serves as an addition to Pimmit Run Stream Valley.

As part of the continued effort to expand the trail opportunities, the Park Authority bought 1.562 acres within Pimmit Run Stream Valley in the Dranesville District. The addition of this parcel will permit the Park Authority to begin construction of a natural surface trail within the stream valley.

Land acquisition is supported in large measure by park bond referenda as well as contributions to the Open Space Land Preservation Fund.
