Supervisor Bruce E. Tulloch (R-Potomac) announced Saturday, Jan. 6, that he would be seeking re-election in his home District this November.
The announcement ended speculation that Tulloch would run for chairman of the board, challenging current chairman Scott K. York (I) for the countywide seat.
"I am proud of my accomplishments over that last three years when it comes to Loudoun County as a whole," he said Saturday. "I want to continue my work on behalf of the citizens of the Potomac District and to that end I will not be seeking the chairman's seat at this time."
Tulloch's announcement, which came one day before the deadline for filing with the county's Republican party, was the latest in the list of Supervisors who will be seeking re-election this fall.
MONDAY, Jan. 8, the Loudoun Republican Party announced all of the candidates who had filed to run for local offices. Supervisors Lori Waters (R-Broad Run), Mick Staton (R-Sugarland Run), Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), Jim Clem (R-Leesburg) and Stephen Snow (R-Dulles) are all seeking re-election in their respective districts. Clem and Snow debated seeking re-election up to the weekend of the filing deadline.
Waters will face opposition this year from local businessman, Jack Ryan, who ran for the Leesburg seat against Clem in 2003.
A. Jey Jeyanathan filed to run for the Republican nomination in the Dulles District and will face Snow at the convention.
"I am seeking the Republican nomination for the Dulles District to bring integrity and good governance to the Dulles District," he said in a press release Tuesday. "We need a new vision for Dulles and Loudoun that keeps taxes under control and promotes new development without overburdening our transportation infrastructure."
Jeyanathan was an active participant in the local government throughout the board's consideration of the three large Comprehensive Plan amendments this past year and has been vocal in his opposition to the decisions made by Snow.
"I am giving [voters] a Republican alternative that is rooted in the Republican creed of integrity, fiscal discipline and limited good governance," he said.
Two men, Robert Bruton and Geary M. Higgins, are running for the Republican nomination in the Catoctin District. Supervisor Sally Kurtz (D) recently announced that she would not be seeking another term. Mark Albright will face long-term supervisor, Jim Burton (I), in the Blue Ridge District this fall.
