Air Force Airman Brandon J. Potts has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Jeffery and Roana Potts of Rainsboro Drive, Ashburn and a 2006 graduate of Broad Run High School, Ashburn.

Army Reserve Pvt. Jason A. Poole has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Poole is the son of Linda Poole of Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg.

He is a student attending Loudoun County High School, Leesburg.

Jessica L. McMurrer of Leesburg qualified for the Dean's List at Coastal Carolina University for the fall 2006 semester.

James L. Banks Jr. of Loudoun County has been appointed to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors by Gov. Tim Kaine.

Banks is a partner in the Labor and Employment Department of the law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP. He is a former member of the Richmond City Council where he also served as vice mayor. Banks is a graduate of Gettysburg College and earned his law degree from the University of Virginia.

Del. Thomas Davis Rust (R-86) earned a 2006 cumulative business rating of 76, from the Virginia Foundation for Research and Economic Education, known as “Virginia FREE.” The score places him among the top 10 in the Virginia House of Delegates. The group is comprised of business representatives from a variety of industries and from all regions of Virginia.

Army Pfc. Ruben M. Carderas has returned to the U.S. after being deployed to an overseas forward-operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq.

The private is an infantry mortar man normally assigned to Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas.

He is the son of Alfonso Cardenas of Bulk Court, Bealton, Va., and Janie Prieto of Malkhom Place, Ashburn. Carderas is a 2004 graduate of Stone Bridge High School, Ashburn.
