Mount Vernon Suspect Sought

The Fairfax police reported that two incidents on Sunday, a robbery of an Alexandria woman and the attempted abduction of another may have been committed by two men riding in a red van.

A 49-year-old woman reported that about 6:10 a.m. on the 4500 block of Gage Road in the Engleside area, she was approached by a man who threatened her and demanded her purse. She surrendered her purse and was not injured. She said the suspect fled in a red or burgundy van with Maryland license plates.

She described the suspect as a black man, about 5 feet ll inches tall and weighing 230 pounds. He wore a gray or black shirt and a yellow or white cap.

About five minutes later, near Buckman Road and Pembrook Village Drive, police responded to a report of an attempted abduction. A 26-year-old Alexandria woman said she was waiting for a bus when a red van rolled by slowly. The van turned around and came back and a passenger ran up to her and pulled her toward the van. The victim said she screamed and was able to pull back and run away. The van drove away she said

The woman described the suspect as black, between 35 ad 40 years old. He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 200 pounds. He wore a red shirt and black and yellow gloves. The van was descriibed as older model Dodge with Maryland license plates.
