New and Upcoming Exhibits

Del Ray Artisan’s new exhibit "Mashup! Solos and Collaborations" runs Aug. 3-26 at the Nicholas A. Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave. The exhibit features pottery, jewelry, monoprints and more. There will also be a raffle of some of the artwork. 703-838-4827.

See an exhibit of Plein Air Paintings by students of artist Sara Linda Poly through Sept. 2 at River Farm, 7931 East Boulevard Drive. These works have been created over the past two years by visiting River Farm and painting landscapes. They are on display and available for sale.

Opening Aug. 6, "Personal Visions" at Gallery West, 1213 King St., runs through Sept. 3. This three member show reflects three distinct views that capture a sense of time and place as seen through the eyes of local artists Gwen Bragg, Roger Frey and Deborah Reeve. The 21st annual "Young at Art" show, sponsored by The Campagna Center’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), will be held at The Campagna Center, 418 S. Washington St. from July 16 – 26. The juried show is open to all metro artists aged 55 and better. The fee for entering the first three works is $10 and $5 for each additional entry. All mediums are accepted. See "A Son and His Adoptive Father: The Marquis de Lafayette and George Washington." The exhibition, showing at Mount Vernon through Aug. 5, is accompanied by an illustrated publication with a foreword by the French Ambassador to the United States. Admission fees, which include access to the entire estate, are $13 for adults; $12 for seniors; $6 for youth ages 6-11; and free for children ages five and younger.

Jan E. Moffatt, of Alexandria, is exhibiting "Come Saturday Morning" through Aug. 5 at The Loft Gallery, 313 Mill St., Occoquan. The Alexandria Black History Museum has a new exhibit titled "Portraits of Black Music: Photographs by Jonathan B. French and Edward C. Keith III." Through Sept. 3, oil paintings by Sara Linda Poly, an instructor at the Art League School in Alexandria, and her students, will be on display in the main house at River Farm, 7931 E. Boulevard Drive. In recognition of the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, the exhibition "Jamestown, Establishing English America" is now open at The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, 201 S. Washington St. Many rare books are featured, including a copy of "Lucilentissima" by Johann Schöner. Museum visitors will also see a first edition of Captain John Smith’s account "The History of Virginia," published in 1624 and featuring the first map showing the name and location of the Jamestown Colony.
