Club Makes Prom Affordable for All

The Junior Women’s Club of Loudoun (JWCL) is doing what it can to make prom night a reality for all county teenagers.

The JWCL kicked off its annual Fairy Tale Closet collection a couple of weeks ago. Boxes have been set up at the Sterling Library and Lady of America Fitness Center in Sterling, Fitness First and Gold’s Gym in Leesburg, Gold’s Gym in Ashburn and Curves in Purcellville. Residents can drop off formal dresses, shoes, accessories and sealed cosmetics through Friday, March 23.

Azi Bahri, the manager of Lady of America Fitness Center, said she is doing what she can to get the word out about the annual project. She has posted signs and passed out brochures in her club.

So far, Bahri has received about 10 dresses and "lots and lots" of shoes, she said, some of which are new.

"We are doing anything we can do to help young ladies make it to the prom," she said.

Cash donations will also be accepted, Bahri added.

The Fairy Tale Closet event will be held Saturday, March 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Leesburg. All Loudoun County high-school students are invited to attend and select donated dresses, shoes and accessories, free of charge.
