The Eastern Loudoun Kiwanis club has been in the works for awhile, but through Sterling resident Heather Talbert's hard work, it's become a reality.
"It's still in the organizational phase," she said, "but we have a lot of great stuff going on."
Talbert has been a member of Kiwanis, an international community service organization with members in 93 countries, for several years. The club's mission is "serving the children of the world." Their projects include Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Meals and Wheels and a number of other community service efforts.
Talbert said they have plans to adopt Guilford Elementary School, where a member of the club works, to help children there.
They will do so by sponsoring a table at the school events, like the annual flea market at the end of this month, to help raise money for a new track.
The club will also team up with Keep Loudoun Beautiful to help clean Claude Moore Park and with Sterling’s Volunteer Fire Department to help with the Cascades 10K Run.
The Eastern Loudoun Kiwanis will meet every first and third Sunday of the month, at 2 p.m., at Cascades Library, 21030 Whitfield Place in Potomac Falls. For more information, visit www.easternloudounkiwanis.org.
