New Fire Station

Possible locations will be presented to Town Council on May 15.

Representatives from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue are scheduled to discuss possible locations for a new fire station in the Town of Herndon at a council work session scheduled for May 15.

While there have been no official declarations of sites, "several" possible locations include Stanton Park, which is located at Third and Monroe Streets, according to Dan Schmidt, a spokesperson for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Fairfax County fire station four, currently located on Spring Street in downtown Herndon, is set to be replaced and updated, as the building is more than 50 years old, according to Schmidt.

While there are currently no discussions into funding for the new station, a target completion date, or estimated costs, the county is interested in locating a new site in the Town of Herndon, he added.

"Really until the county, the fire department, and the Town of Herndon have a chance to discuss this, we're still in an exploratory phase," Schmidt said.

Herndon Vice Mayor Dennis Husch, in a phone interview, said that he was opposed to the idea of placing the fire station in Stanton Park, as it is a residential area.
