Pro football player Willie Pile to host the inaugural X‚s & O‚s Life Skills and Football Camp for Kids age 7-14 on May 19, at West Potomac High School, 6500 Quander Rd., Alexandria, VA. Campers will check in at 9:30 am and camp concludes at 3:30 p.m.

The camp will stress conditioning and football technique for every position both individually and as a team. Camp admission is $40. Youth can download the registration form at www.pilegroup.com. A pre-registration event will be held on May 12, 2007 at the Sports Authority in Springfield Mall from 11 am - 2 pm featuring Shaun Suisham of the Washington Redskins.

The Mount Vernon High School Basketball Program will hold their annual FUNdamentals Basketball Camp this summer on Wednesday, June 20th – Saturday, June 23rd (corrected dates). There will be only one session of camp this year. The camp will be held at Mount Vernon High School (Entrance 6) from 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m. All students from grades 3-10 (school year 2007-2008) are welcome to register. Register by June 1st and receive the "Early Bird Special" rate of $100. After June 1, the registration fee will be $120. The FUNdamentals Camp is sponsored by the Mount Vernon High School Athletic Boosters.

Applications are being accepted through May 18 for the Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Science (TEMS) Summer Academy, a five-week program offering Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) rising middle-school students an opportunity to explore the four subjects through hands-on activities, group projects and field trips. Five students from West Potomac High School Chorus have been selected to participate in the All State Chorus. This is a very large number to be selected from just one school. they performed on April 28th in Christiansburg, Virginia at Christiansburg High School. And include Jon Baker, Jacques Holden, Theresa Meehan, Katherine Perkins, and Natalie Zuffi.

Drew Smith and Jeremy Bogden, of West Potomac were recognized for their outstanding artwork at the National level by Scholastics Art.

Over spring break the newly founded Indoor Drumline from West Potomac competed in the Atlantic Indoor Association Finals competition in Raleigh, NC. The ensemble had their best show of the season, earning themselves a 91.15 and a first place tie in their class. Soundsations chorus sang at the VA Tech memorial services at Robinson High.

Elizabeth Page Sargeant of Mount Vernon, was named to Wake Forest University's dean's list.

The 2007 Alexandria History Awards were presented by Senator Patsy Ticer at a meeting of the Alexandria Historical Society on April 25 at the Lyceum, 201 South Washington St. The 2007 Alexandria High School History Awards will be presented to William Shafroth of T.C. Williams High School , Theresa Green of Bishop Ireton High School , Julia Ciavarella of St. Stephen's and St. Agnes High School, and Matthew Hurley of Episcopal High School.
