Girl Admits to False Report

Report of rape false.

Investigators have determined that a rape reported in Ashburn at the end of last month is unfounded.

A 16-year-old female told authorities she was walking on a trail along Claiborne Parkway between Windmill Drive and the Greenway around 8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, when she was approached by an unknown male from behind. She told authorities she was forced into the woods along the trail and sexually assaulted.

During the investigation, inconsistencies in the girl’s story led investigators to determine the rape report was false. The accuser has since admitted her story was false.

Kraig Troxell, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said that while investigators had received several tips following the release of a sketch of a suspect, no specific individuals had been detained for questioning.

Filing a false police report is a crime, Troxell said he was not sure what the outcome would be.

"She could be charged, but that would be up to the commonwealth’s attorney," he said.
