Obituary: Marion Eisenhower Burchill Dies

Marion Eisenhower Burchill died on Sept. 21 at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital after a short illness. She had lived in Alexandria and nearby Fairfax County for 55 years, having relocated here in 1952 with her late husband, William R. Burchill. After 46 years as a resident of the City of Alexandria, she had lived in Villamay in Mount Vernon since 1998.

A native of Schuylkill, Pa., Marion graduated from Ithaca College in New York and did graduate work at Columbia University. She taught high school music and English in Pennsylvania following college. Later she was a substitute teacher in the Alexandria public schools in the 50s-60s. She was a member of the Women’s Board of The George Washington University Hospital and of Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority.

She is survived by her son, William R. Burchill, Jr., of Alexandria, and by cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral was a graveside service in Pottsville, Pa. on Sept. 29. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Women’s Board of The George Washington University Hospital.
