Parenting Teens. This class presents a down-to-earth and practical way to meet the challenges of raising teenagers. The group discussion format teaches skills to help improve parent/teen relations; develop teen self-esteem and self-reliance; and promote responsible teen behavior at home, school and in the community. Communicating Success to Children. Parents will learn to identify the purposes of a child's misbehavior and develop effective discipline and encouragement strategies for positively redirecting these behaviors. Required text, $15. Let's Talk About It! This group for 14-15 year old girls is an opportunity to build confidence and self-esteem through exploring issues we all face: relationships, identity and fitting in. Anger Management Group for Teens. In this ongoing group participants are taught to identify triggers, slow down their arousal when angered and process and act on anger in a constructive way. The goal of anger management is not to eliminate the anger but to use it as a signal that something needs to be addressed. Middle school and high school age boys and girls groups offered. Art classes for toddlers, karate, dance and magic-trick lessons for children, fencing lessons for teens and yoga for adults are a few of the courses offered by the Montgomery County Recreation Department at Potomac Community Center. Master Greg Maye, owner, director and head instructor of the Jhoon Rhee Institute in Potomac Village, 11815 Seven Locks Road, is a 6th-degree black belt and certified master instructor by Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee. The Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center, in conjunction with the African Immigrant and Refugee Foundation, has added a series of daytime ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes for adults. The classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m., and will run for 20 consecutive weeks. The center is located at 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring. Child care will be provided at no charge. The classes are free, but a $10 refundable deposit and $16 book fee are required.
