Westfield High School hosts its Seventh Annual Bulldog Bash Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 27, 29, and 30, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Admission is $5 per day, good for all games that day. A three–day tournament pass is $12. Free admission will be granted to children under age 6, adults over age 60, and any travel or house youth basketball players wearing their uniform top and accompanied by a paying adult. The Paul VI Varsity Swim Team competed against Bishop Ireton at St. Alban’s on Nov. 25. The meet was a great start to the Panthers’ season. The PVI boys' team, led by seniors Pat Lytle, Alex Spina, and Joe Clarke, dominated the Cardinals by winning nine of the 11 events. The final score for the boys was: PVI - 110 and Ireton - 60. The girls' team, led by seniors Natalie Fitz, Jackie Orsa, and Michelle Young, also had a number of strong performances and personal best times. The final score for the girls was PVI - 61 and Ireton - 109. The Panthers’ next meet will be against St. Alban’s and National Cathedral on Dec 10 at 4 p.m. at St. Alban’s.

SYA Travel Baseball will be holding tryouts for its 8-U through 12-U travel baseball teams now through Saturday, Dec. 6. SYA Wrestling is holding on-line registration for the 2008-2009 Winter Season for youth ages 7-14. Practices are held at Centreville and Westfield High Schools beginning the second week in November and run through February. Weekly tournaments are held beginning in December. Play Soccer in Italy — AC Cugini Soccer, affiliated with Italian premier league club ACF Fiorentina, is conducting tryouts in Reston through December for guest spots on its special Italy tournament teams traveling to Florence, Italy, the Italian Adriatic, and Bologna, June 18-July 3, 2009. A 5-day ACF Fiorentina training camp is included in addition to tournament play. Boys and girls ages 9-16 are eligible. CYA Blaze is a U11 Boys Travel Team, based in Chantilly, playing in the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL). The team is professionally trained by Soccer Performance International. The Blaze is looking for a few good players. Team goals are to develop players, strengthen the team and have fun. Tryouts will be later this fall but the team is open to experienced players now. Potomac Inline Hockey (PIHI) is still accepting registrations for its Youth, High School, and Adult fall inline hockey season. There are free Learn-to-Play sessions for youth to help get acquainted with the sport. The fall season runs September thru December with all practices and games held indoors at The Box Inline Hockey Arena in Chantilly. The Loudoun South Eagles Gold 12U team seeks experienced players to participate in Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 seasons. The 12U Gold team plays a Little League friendly schedule and often works out (field work and instructional indoor workouts) with the 12U travel Eagles (a regionally recognized travel team). The 12U Gold team does not travel outside the metropolitan area. The Chantilly Youth Association (CYA) Boys U17 Vikings Soccer team (players born after Aug. 1990) is seeking several players. Every day, millions of people volunteer, using their time, talents, and compassion to make a difference in the lives of others. Fairfax Adult Softball Inc. (FAS), a non-profit organization, prides itself on the success of its program from the continued support of its volunteers. The Ron Bullock Volunteer of the Year award was created to recognize the one person who has made a substantial commitment to volunteering and improving the FAS program. This award is given to an individual that has demonstrated outstanding volunteer service over the course of 12 months.

FAS recognizes the significance of dedicated, hardworking volunteers and on Sunday, Feb. 10, FAS appreciation was expressed when volunteers gathered to be recognized for their valuable efforts. President John Carney presented this year’s recipient of the Ron Bullock Volunteer of the Year award to Chris Voss for her exceptional support of the adult softball program and its 10,000-plus participants. Chris, a long-time resident of Springfield, devotes countless hours to the promotion of adult softball in Fairfax County with particular emphasis on the challenge of revitalizing a declining women’s program. The Northern Virginia Football Officials Association (NVFOA) is seeking new members for its 2008 training class who can become on-field game officials and electronic clock operators for games at the youth, middle school, and high school levels throughout the metropolitan area.
