Mount Vernon Loses in Regionals

The Mount Vernon girls soccer team may have had the National District Player of the Year in senior forward Leslie Fajfar, but the Majors couldn’t mount enough in the season’s final two games.

Mount Vernon’s season ended with a 2-1 loss to Centreville on Tuesday afternoon at Wakefield in the first round of the Northern Region tournament. That was four days after the Majors dropped a 2-0 contest to Yorktown in the National District final.

The Yorktown loss erased a seven-game winning streak, which dated back to a 2-1 loss to Edison. Mount Vernon, under head coach Tony Garza, finished 9-6 overall.
