Unity of Fairfax Church in Oakton, VA with its commitment to environmental concerns, will celebrate the installation of the first "green roof" in Fairfax County on church property. The celebration is scheduled for Sunday June 1 at noon at 2854 Hunter Mill Road.

Green roof technology conserves energy, is natural insulation, improves air quality, filters water, dramatically reduces run-off and water flow rate, and restores ecological and aesthetic value of open space. Unity's Stormwater Management Plan embraces several Bayscaping techniques that promote the standards of the Chesapeake Bay 2000 Agreement and Fairfax County's Difficult Run Management Plan.

This project also includes a stormwater retention pond to be landscaped with native plants that will enhance wildlife and eliminate chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides on the property.

One of the major elements of this project will be the ongoing education on the principles and practical uses of "green" technology. The Unity campus will become a demonstration site for inspiring other churches, businesses, homeowners and others to adopt this cost effective, highly efficient, and environmentally-friendly technology.

Donna Johnson, Unity's Senior Minister, says "The financial resources for our green roof were raised from the prosperity consciousness of our congregation in alignment with Unity philosophy. When you hold a vision of what you desire along with faith, resources flow to make it manifest."

Unity of Fairfax is located at 2854 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, 22124, right next to the new Oakton library. Visit www.UnityofFairfax.org for more information.
