Chantilly’s Foley Not Stuck in Rut
At last week’s Concorde District cross-country championships, Chantilly junior Chris Foley was outkicked by his good friend Jared Berman of Robinson down the stretch.
Then last Thursday, as Foley headed down the final hill of the 2.98-mile Burke Lake Park course for the Northern Region meet, he temporarily lost his footing. The ending, it seemed, didn’t want to cooperate.
“I guess I hit a rut or something,” Foley said. “But I thought that if I fell there, I would never live it down. That kind of snapped me out of it and then I just got my kick for the finish.”
Foley finished strong, taking second place behind Edison’s Leoule Degfae with a time of 15 minutes, 20.66 seconds — a personal-best mark.
“Last week at districts I was a little disappointed because I felt that I died a little bit,” said Foley, who qualified for Saturday’s Virginia AAA state meet at Great Meadow in The Plains. “But this week I felt like I finished strong and I was a lot happier with this week’s finish.”
Chantilly Cheer to host ‘Performance Day’

Performance Day will be held on Sunday, Nov. 9 from 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Chantilly High School. The event will include leagues from Reston, Gainesville, Annandale, Ft. Belvoir, Centreville, Herndon, Alexandria and Mount Vernon. CYA Cheer offers fall season cheer for kids ages 5-14. For more information on the program, visit www.CheerSelect.com.
