The following Virginia Tech students have gained membership to the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech. To qualify for the marching band students must audition one week before the beginning of classes each fall. Katie Charles of Sterling, junior majoring in wildlife science in the College of Natural Resources; Rebecca Clark of Sterling, freshman majoring in biology in the College of Science; Christopher Hoerauf of Sterling, freshman majoring in music in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; Kevin Mak of Sterling, freshman majoring in university studies at Virginia Tech; Jonathan Miller of Sterling, senior majoring in art in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies; Derek Ong of Potomac Falls, a freshman majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering; and b of Sterling, a freshman majoring in university studies at Virginia Tech.

Michele L. Tucker of Potomac Falls wrote a new book, "A Conversation About Alzheimer's," an account of the progression of her father's illness and how it affected her and her family. Visit www.authorhouse.com.

Air Force Airman Christopher M. Young of Sterling has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas after six weeks of training. Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Young is the son of Dianne Lovett of Sterling and was a 2007 graduate of Park View High School.
