SSSAS FH Completes 'Trifecta'

Sports Brief

Capping off a season that saw them go without a loss and win the ISL regular-season and tournament titles, the St. Stephen’s/ST. Agnes field hockey team won the Virginia Independent School League state title last weekend by defeating Collegiate, 1-0.

Senior Chelsea Pasfield (Alexandria) scored the Saints lone goal of the game courtesy of an assist from senior Kelly Austin.

This is the second-straight season the Saints have completed what coach Marsha Way calls the “trifecta,” winning the regular season, conference tournament, and state titles. It is also the second-consecutive year the team has done all three with just one tie and no losses to its record. The Saints finished with a 22-0-1 record.

Senior Ashley Hunter was named the state tournament MVP, and was joined on the all-tournament first team by seniors Jessie Coffield (Alexandria) and Katheryn Newhouse (Alexandria).
