Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM) is looking for individuals, churches, families or businesses who would be willing to provide a holiday food basket to a needy family this Thanksgiving. This is a family-oriented program where you have the opportunity to deliver the basket directly to your sponsored family. There are still hundreds of families looking for sponsors. Our Neighbors Child is the local organization that steps in during the holiday to provide toys and clothing for families in the immediate ZIP code who are having a difficult time. Through the help of 15 local churches, Western Fairfax Christian Ministries-Ways and Means, and many school counselors and social workers, ONC is able to determine the families who have the greatest need. Local volunteers then work together to meet those needs.

In its 17th year, ONC is looking for groups or individuals that would "adopt" the special needs of local families for the holiday season. The focus this year is on winter coats. A new Boy Scout of America Troop, Troop 2 is being formed in Centreville. It will meet on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church. Troops 2's focus is on learning self reliance and leadership, in the outdoors, in the real world, away from the video games and TV. Upcoming activities are selected to be an integrated mix of fun and serious learning including: hiking on the AT, cooking with fire, swimming, first aid, Dutch oven cooking, Klondike, national battlefields and fishing. The Western Fairfax County Woman’s Club is selling 2008 White House Christmas ornaments. This year’s ornament honors the 23rd President, Benjamin Harrison. Fair Oaks Parkinson Foundation Support Group & Exercise Class. The Junior League of Northern Virginia is hosting its annual The Enchanted Forest, Nov. 22-23, at the Sheraton Reston in Reston. It features a variety of holiday festivities for the family, including entertainment and crafts for children, gifts and holiday decorations for purchase, an afternoon tea, a silent auction and an evening gala celebration.
