Oakton Baptist Church of Chantilly is hosting a "Revival with Dr. Paul Brown" from Roanoke from Oct. 12-15. Oakton Baptist church is sponsoring a Flea Market for their active church family/members on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is located at Route 50 and Sullyfield Circle, Chantilly. First stop light East of Route 28. Food and home baked items will also be available.

Solace for the victims of abuse, as well as for those left behind after domestic homicide, plus an offering of options to prevent additional tragedies, will be offered Tuesday Oct. 28, at the "Prayer and Awareness Day" community-wide event coordinated by three key local nonprofits. To be hosted at Truro Church from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the occasion will feature speakers from a variety of different churches such as the Rev. Rose Robinson of First Baptist Church in Vienna, Truro Church’s own Rev. Coleman Tyler, and Pastor Danell Perkins with Grace Covenant Church. Truro Church is located at 10520 Main Street, in Fairfax.

The charitable organizations sponsoring and working together to arrange the event include NOVACO (www.novaco.org), Time to Fly (www.timetofly.org), and Bethany House of Northern Virginia (www.bhnv.org). The three groups offers shelter and/or services that help families with the various phases of escaping domestic abuse.

Wellspring United Church of Christ in Centreville will co-sponsor a Colombian speaker at George Mason University, on Thursday, Oct. 23. Freddy Caicedo, human rights worker in Colombia, will speak at GMU (Fairfax Campus, Student Union II, room 5 at 7 p.m.), about human rights and the proposed Colombia Free Trade Agreement. Having worked at great personal risk to boost awareness of the trade agreement in Colombia’s war zones, Caicedo will bring a rare insider’s perspective on the controversial agreement. Wellspring offers the presentation as part of support for Wellspring’s sister church in Zambrano, Colombia.

Congregation Yad Shalom of Centreville provides a variety of programs in a traditional format with a modern flair. It openly invites inquiries about participation in these activities by the community. There are a number of activities for the family for the new year:

Wellspring Church joins in a praise service, with the call to "rejoice in the Lord always!" this Sunday morning. Especially when times are tough, Christians know that "God is still speaking" The Rev. Al Fuertes will preach. Sunday worship is at 11 a.m., at the chapel on Route 29, 13510 Lee Highway, Centreville. The chapel is on the north side of Route 29, just west of the Lee Highway-Union Mill Rd. intersection.

Sunday School for children meets during the worship hour. Following worship there is a fellowship hour with fair trade coffee and treats, and visitors are welcome.

A "Living the Questions" evening Bible study meets on October 15, and the Immigration Forum meets at Centreville Library on October 14. Wellspring is sponsoring a Colombian speaker, Freddy Caicedo, on October 23, to strengthen the connection with a sister church in Zambrano, Colombia. St. Timothy Craft Group is looking for creative people to help prepare for the St. Timothy Craft Fair in November. The Fairfax Chinese Christian Church is a developing community church that meets at St. John's Episcopal Church, 5649 Mount Gilead Road, Centreville. Divorce Care is a video-based seminar group for people who are experiencing difficulty with their separation or divorce. Centreville United Methodist is hosting DivorceCare, which meets Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. at Centreville UMC. DivorceCare is a 13-week Christ-centered divorce recovery program, which walks participants through the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of someone going through separation and divorce.
