Congregation Sha'are Shalom is sponsoring a Mothers/Parents Circle group, which will begin in late October. This free class will meet 16 times during the year. The program offers free educational events and resources for parents raising Jewish children within the context of intermarriage or a committed relationship, and focuses on Jewish rituals, ethics and the creation of a Jewish home and includes regular meetings and group Shabbat and holiday observances. Groups interested in learning about the application processes for the Loudoun County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) programs should attend workshops on both programs Thursday, Nov. 6, on the second floor of the Shenandoah Building, 102 Heritage Way, N.E., in Leesburg. The preapplication workshop for the CDBG program will be held, from 10 a.m.-noon, in the Shenandoah Room. The Mosby Heritage Area Association is conducting a two-day participatory workshop Nov. 7-8 on the impact of John Brown’s 1859 Raid on Harpers Ferry. The event will take place "in the field" at locations in Loudoun County, in Maryland and in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Participants will take on the persona of one of the raiders and follow in the footsteps of John Brown as shadow re-enactors. The workshop begins at 6:45 p.m. on Friday evening at Morven Park near Leesburg and ends Saturday night inside the Engine House at Harpers Ferry, where John Brown was captured. Participant fee: $120.
