West Potomac honored Jeffrey Dietze, the school’s former director of student activities.

Last Friday night’s football game between West Potomac and Mount Vernon also served as a forum to congratulate a former athletic director for his civic deeds.

West Potomac dedicated its stadium in honor of former director of student activities, Jeffrey Dietze. The Wolverines unveiled a new banner on top of the stadium’s press box during a pre game ceremony proclaiming the new home of the Wolverines as “Jeffrey C. Dietze Stadium.”

Before retiring last year, Dietze led West Potomac athletics for the first 23 years of the school’s existence, while also broadening the scope of the school’s fine arts program. Dietze has served the Alexandria community for 38 years, including stints at now-defunct Groveton and Fort Hunt High Schools, where he was also a chemistry teacher.

In addition to the stadium dedication, Dietze will be inducted into the Virginia High School Hall of Fame next month.

In the past, Dietze has also been named athletic director of the year at the national and state level, as well as the Virginia High School League’s lifetime achievement award.
