Herndon Girls Scouts Earn Highest Honor

Kristen Fernberg, Allison Maxwell and Rebekah Wakefield celebrate their hard work.

Kristen Fernberg, Allison Maxwell and Rebekah Wakefield of Girl Scout Troop #2677 completed their Bronze Award project — free hands-on science workshops for bridging Daisy to Junior Girl Scouts in the Herndon area. Young girls from Clearview Elementary, Dranesville Elementary and the ADAMS Center attended the scouts’ workshops.

The Bronze Award is the highest Junior Girl Scout honor. From October 2008 to March 2009, Fernberg, Maxwell and Wakefield served in community leadership positions and earned the Leadership Award, a Girl Scout Sign and project-related badges — all in preparation for beginning their Bronze Award project. To it, they dedicated their personal allowances and 20 to 23 hours each of volunteer time.
