<b>Youth Soccer Team Wins Tourney</b>

The McLean Green Strikers U9 Girls All-Star Team were Champions of the top division in the 2009 Fairfax Police Youth Club All-Star Soccer Tournament. The U9 Girls Division of the FPYC Tournament included 26 teams. The Strikers played in honor of U.S. Army Capt. Patrick Horan who was injured in Iraq in July 2007.

Members of the Strikers team included the following girls: Sabine Awad, Sarah Bonforte, Abby Comey, Claire Fleury, Helen Horan, Julia Johnston, Kaela Moskowitz, Lauren Palombi, Noura Rayes, Katerina Soltany, Elizabeth Zhou and Kimberly Zhou. Coaches were Richard Horan and Roger Moskowitz.

<b>Summer Soccer</b>

By winning the recent US Youth Soccer Virginia State Championship, four McLean area soccer teams have qualified to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Championships.

The U-16 McLean MPS Hurricanes boys’, U-19 MCLN MPS FC boys’, U-18 McLean MPS Freedom girls’ and the U-19 MCLN MPS Freedom Elite will be among the more than 282 top US Youth Soccer Boys and Girls teams from the 15 US Youth Soccer State Associations competing for the regional title, July 2-7 at the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships at Barboursville Soccer Complex, Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center and Scott Orthopedics Soccer Complex in Barboursville, W.Va. <b>Jimmy Lange Update</b>

Junior Middleweight contender Jimmy Lange (30-3-2, 21 KOs), who captured the World Boxing Council’s 154-pound U.S. National Boxing Championship last month, will return to action on Saturday, July 25, headlining a fight card at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum Special Event Center. The Great Falls fighter and season one participant on “The Contender” television series will face Jimmy LeBlanc (12-16-4, 4 KOs) of Weymouth, Mass. in an eight-round non-title bout as part of the Double Impact event presented by Walter Johnson Promotions in association with WorldBoxe.

<b>Register Now for RYA</b>

Registration is open for Reston Youth Association’s (RYA) fall 2009 football and cheerleading programs. Registration is also open for RYA football camp and a 3-on-3-basketball tournament to be held the week of July 18. The RYA programs are open to youth ages 6-16 in Reston and the surrounding areas. No experience is needed and full player participation is guaranteed regardless of ability or experience. The three levels of play in each weight-class are based on age, weight and experience. Games will be played on the turf fields at Lake Fairfax Park. Practice begins Aug. 10 and the first games are Sept. 19. The season ends by Thanksgiving.
