Centreville High School and the CVHS Drama Boosters will present The Laramie Project on March 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Roy A. "Skip" Maiden Theater at Centreville High School. The play, by Moises Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theater Project interviewed the people of Laramie and created this work. Tickets are $8.

Fairfax County School Board member Kathy L. Smith (Sully District) will hold an informational meeting about the Fairfax County Public Schools FY 2010 budget on Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m. in the little theater at Rocky Run Middle School. Smith and FCPS Assistant Superintendent for Financial Services Susan Quinn will present highlights of the budget, examine budget issues facing the county and the schools, outline the budget process and calendar, and discuss how individual schools will be affected. NVTA (formerly Northern Virginia Theatre Alliance) is offering a theatre scholarship for high school seniors. NVTA is a non-profit organization of community theaters in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Christopher Liotta, son of Alan and Katy Liotta of Oak Hill, has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2008 Fall semester at Elon University. Christopher, a 2008 graduate of Chantilly High School, is majoring in Communications—Film. At Chantilly, he held roles in numerous Theater Department musicals and comedies, was a member of the award-winning Theater Sports Team, and was chosen as the Outstanding Member of the Department for the graduating class of 2008.
Jay Robert Liotta, son of Alan and Katy Liotta of Oak Hill, has been named to the President’s List for the 2008 Fall semester at Elon University. Jay, a 2005 graduate of Chantilly High School, is majoring in Communications—Broadcast Television, with minors in Political Science and Sociology. While at Elon, Jay has held a variety of positions, including Director, with the University’s award winning student-produced game show "Win Stuff." During the summer of 2008, he worked with Boone Oakley advertising, and his accomplishments can be seen in the latest CarMax and Ruby Tuesday commercials airing on television.
Molly B. Bridenbaugh of Chantilly directed the one-act show "Ferryboat" by Anna Marie Barlow as part of the Lynchburg College Theater Department's One-Act Festival Dec. 11-13. This show was part of the requirements for a course in directing, and Bridenbaugh has been working on it since September.
She was also recently selected to perform in the musical, "The Sweet Smell of Success." The play follows the rise and fall of an ambitious press agent who yearns for success. Showings will be held at Lynchburg College on Feb. 26-28, and March 1.
Bridenbaugh was also elected official "rapporteur" of the European Parliament. She was part of the Lynchburg College team that participated in the Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation in Washington, D.C. The simulation was a gathering of students from 13 universities and colleges that represented the various member states of the European Union. The students were involved in debates about the European Parliament, the European Council, the EU Commission and the Council of Ministers. All debates were about agriculture and the environment.
She also earned dean's list for the 2008 fall semester at Lynchburg College. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in order to qualify.
Victoria Lee Raabe of Centreville, a junior at Washington and Lee University, has earned dean's list status for the fall term. Dean's list status represents a term grade average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. She is the daughter of Mrs. Lyn Raabe of Centreville.
Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI), a nonprofit student exchange organization, gives foreign exchange students the opportunity of a lifetime through their Academic Year Program. CCI places 1,000 foreign exchange students from more than 40 countries around the world each year.
All of the students placed by are 15 to 18 years old and are proficient in English. CCI does require a stringent review process for all potential host families. Requirements to host include a separate bed and a quiet place to study, daily meals with the family, some local transportation and treatment of the student as a member of the family. Foreign exchange students are required to bring their own spending money and are insured during their stay. To place students for the 2009-10 school year, CCI has a deadline of Aug. 28, 2009, but the process is ongoing in the months before the deadline.
Two local students were named to the Dean's List at Coastal Carolina University for the fall 2008 semester. They are: Tammy R. Banton of Centreville and Bryan J. Nelsen of Chantilly. To qualify for the Dean's List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 GPA and upper classmen must earn a 3.5 GPA.

The Fresh Air Fund committee is currently preparing for summer 2009 and awaiting the arrival of their New York City visitors. To ensure that this summer is special for Fresh Air children, The Fund is seeking volunteer members and host families to sign up now. Each summer, close to 5,000 New York City children, ages six to 18, enjoy two week vacations with volunteer host families in suburban and rural communities across 13 Northeastern states and Canada. Local Fresh Air Fund volunteers recruit and interview host families, arrange travel and coordinate fun activities in their communities.

Alexis Reyes of Centreville recently completed a training program at NOVA’s Manassas Campus. Working with Tire Kingdom, the Manassas Campus automotive program created a special, five-week course to teach basic automotive skills and provide employment opportunities.
Sigma Alpha Lambda announces that Caitlin Marie Meslar of Centreville is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, National Leadership and Honors Organization at the Montclair State University. Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national leadership and honors organization dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development and lifelong professional fulfillment.
Meslar is a sophomore and a guard on the MSU women’s basketball team and recently selected to represent the University at the NCAA Leadership Conference in Pittsburgh.
Meslar graduated from Westfield High School and her parents Karen and Walter Meslar reside in Centreville.
