Exhibit: “Tri-Focus — A unique view of people, nature and events.” Nov. 4-Dec. 6, in The Gallery in Studio 5. Featured artists Judith Dougherty, Marni Maree and Trish Vermillion treat visitors to their views of life, people and the splendor of nature in bloom. Vermillion presents various examples of the “windows of the soul” in portraits on porcelain focusing on eyes. Dougherty has created an oil painting that chronicles a soul wrenching year of her life and Maree depicts the soul of nature in bloom with vivid watercolor paintings. Free. The opening reception is Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m.
First Anniversary Celebration Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. The Workhouse Arts Center presents an outdoor, juried sculpture exhibit through Nov. 28. Jurors Robin Croft, independent curator and artist, along with Marti Deppa Kirkpatrick, the studio manager and exhibition coordinator for the Lorton Arts Foundation, selected a total of five works by area sculptors for display around the Workhouse grounds. Featured artists include Pattie Porter Firestone, Craig R. Schaffer and Mike Shaffer. All works will be on display on the Workhouse Quad.
Poetic Art Benefit Reception and Reading. The Poetic Art exhibition will open to the public through Nov. 20. An opening reception will be Friday, Oct. 25, from 2-5 p.m., and will feature a reading of some of the submitted poems. The exhibition will feature both invited and juried artists and poets. The exhibition will be held on the second floor of Gallery W-16.
Enamel: A Contemporary Perspective runs through Nov. 21 The process of enameling is cohesively defined as glass bonded to a metal surface with the application of heat. Artists in this exhibition experiment with additional techniques far beyond the basics. Curator Trudi Van Dyke has invited 13 fine artists who express themselves in enameling to participate.
Workhouse Art Guild Exhibit. The second Wednesday of each month the members of the Workhouse Art Guild (WAG) present a new show of juried works in Gallery W16, First Floor. The public is invited to a free reception to meet the artists and enjoy the diverse media exhibition on the third Sunday of each month from 2-4 p.m.
Workhouse Artists Associates Exhibit runs through Nov. 22. Members of the Workhouse Artist Associates are exhibiting a variety of works in the Associates Gallery, Gallery W-16, First Floor.
Film Screenings: Workhouse Film Institute: Cinematic Tourist Series celebrates Bollywood at Gallery W16, Second Floor. On Friday, Nov. 6, doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a reception and a screening of “Saawariya” will begin at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., come see the Northern India exhibition and marketplace, along with afternoon Bollywood dance workshops with Anil and Cordula Dahal. A matinee screening of “Hero No. 1” will start at 12 p.m. In addition, doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and a screening of “Bride and Prejudice” will begin at 7 p.m. All events are free but tickets are required and may be reserved online.
Second Saturday Art Walks: Saturday, Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m. The Workhouse Studio Artists will keep their doors open after hours on the second Saturday of each month. The art walks are the perfect time to explore the Workhouse and experience the vitality, creativity and diversity of the artists who make up this unique arts community. The Association of Interior Design Professionals (AIDP) will host a reception in conjunction with the Art Walks in W-16 from 6-7 p.m. to bring together artists, interior design professionals and the public to highlight the creative incorporation of original art into interior design settings. All are invited to talk art and design with these creative design professionals.
Gallery After Hours "Heavy Hitters" presents The Osedax and special guests on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. Formed in 2007, and combining elements of classic Southern Rock with the volume and power of modern progressive metal, The Osedax brings a sound that is familiar in its melodies while new and inspiring in its aggression.
