Panther Runners Excel at Octoberfest

Potomac Falls Girls finish sixth in varsity `A’ race.

Local Loudoun County cross country high schools teams participated at last Saturday’s Octoberfest Invitational meet, held at the Great Meadows course in The Plains.

In the boys’ elite varsity `A’ race, the Potomac Falls Panthers earned a seventh place finish in a field of 51 teams. Alvaro Morales of Potomac Falls finished a strong 27th overall among 336 runners.

From Dominion High, seniors Kevin Tiblin (113th) and Nick Sharp (123rd) were the top two finishers for the Titans. Broad Run’s Andrew Hayden, a sophomore, was the first Spartan to cross the finish line.

The top boys’ team finisher in the varsity `A’ race was Mountain View of Stafford.

Northern Virginia teams to fare well included Herndon High, which finished sixth just ahead of Potomac Falls, and eighth place West Potomac.

The individual champion of the varsity `A’ race was Yazid Zouaimia of Centreville High.

In the boys’ varsity `B’ race, Potomac Falls, fielding a second team, finished fourth overall. Skyline High was the team champion and West Potomac finished second.

Potomac Falls seniors Mike Volaric and Dan Zimmerman finished 15th and 16th overall, respectively.

<b>IN THE GIRLS’ VARSITY `A’ RACE</b>, the Potomac Falls girls finished a strong sixth place overall out of 46 teams. Other Northern Virginia teams to run solid races included fifth place Edison and eighth place George Mason. The team champion was West Potomac.

Potomac Falls senior Christina Lee finished sixth overall in the varsity `A’ girls’ race. The next three Panther runners to finish were senior Natalie Wright (41st overall, among 317 runners), sophomore Koeley Brady (42nd) and junior Rachel Hagen (97th).

Dominion High’s top finishers were senior Buffy Misanin and Barbara Rion. Broad Run was led by freshman Emily Votroubek.
