Volunteers Needed

The Reston Multicultural Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Lake Anne Plaza. It’s a day of celebration of international diversity. This free annual event brings together the medley of cultures through music, entertainment, dress, food, and cultural treasures from all over the world that is Reston. Volunteers are needed to assist with children’s activities, concession, volunteer check-in, information booth and much more. For more information contact Ha Brock at 703-435-7986 or via e-mail at habrock@reston.org.

Weed Warriors Project: Our native trees, ferns and wildflowers are under attack by invasive exotic plants like English Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle and Bamboo. “Weed warriors” are needed to join the effort in rescuing Reston’s parkland from these aggressive plants. These fast growing, invasive plants escape from people’s yards and seriously threaten local ecosystems, taking away vital food and habitat from already stressed wildlife populations.

Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m.-12 noon, join the volunteers in removing the burning bush, barberry and other aggressive invasive exotic plants behind Stirrup Lane. The volunteers will be returning to this site to continue the fight they started last year against these invaders. Park along Colts Neck Rd. or at the tennis court parking lot. The work will take place along the natural path behind Stirrup Lane. To sign up, call: Ha Brock, RA Volunteer Specialist, via email habrock@reston.org or call 703-435-7986
