<b>Rebels Down Stuart in Home Opener</b>
After two tough losses on the road, the Fairfax High School varsity football team made the most of home-field advantage in its 28-23 victory against Stuart High School on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Head Coach Chris Haddock said that the victory wasn’t pretty. In the first half, the Rebels fumbled the ball five times, losing possession on each fumble.
"It was a sloppy game," Haddock said. "But we were able to tighten up our game in the second half."
Despite the early struggles, the Rebels rebounded with a strong second half.
Haddock mentioned senior running back Jack Carter as one of the game’s standouts. Carter had 137 rushing yards on 21 attempts and a scored the game-winning touchdown with 45 seconds left.
Another standout was senior wide receiver Alex Young who caught five passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Although the Rebels earned their first victory, Haddock said the game could have just as easily been a loss.
"We were able to escape this week," Haddock said.
Fairfax’s next game is on Sept. 25 against Liberty District opponent Langley High School.
<b>Woodson Stumped by Lee</b>
The W.T. Woodson varsity football team suffered its first Patriot District defeat on Thursday, Sept. 17 in its 27-7 loss to Lee High School.
The Cavaliers struggled to contain Lee’s three-headed rushing attack in Idreis Augustus, Jazmier Williams and Greg Lopez. At the end of the first half, Woodson trailed Lee 21-0.
A bright spot in the loss was quarterback Connor Reilly’s performance. Reilly passed for 155 passing yards, ran for 55 yards and scored the Cavaliers’ lone touchdown on a five yard run.
The Cavaliers next game is at home on Sept. 25 against Concorde District power Chantilly High School.

<b>Church Group Hosts Golf Tournament</b>
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be hosting its annual NOVA FCA Golf Classic at South Riding Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 28.
The event is one of the FCA’s main fund raisers for the year and the group hopes to raise enough money to get two new full time area representatives in area schools to work with athletes and coaches.
