Burke Lake Park offers a variety of activities for area residents.

Open from sunrise to sunset, Burke Lake Park, located in Fairfax Station, offers many activities the whole family can enjoy. The open landscape makes the park an ideal location for camping. The park also has a picnic area complete with grills and tables.

Visitors can also enjoy a round of miniature golf or flying disc golf. “I come here about twice a week, I like the Frisbee golf course here best,” said Jeff Ma, 25, of Lorton.

David Smith, walking with a friend to the disc golf course with a disc in hand said, “I come here four times a week at least to play Frisbee golf. It’s the best course around.”

Adrianne Hamilton was enjoying the park’s miniature golf course with her children. “I’ve got a 14-year old, an 11-year old and a 6-year old, and we can all come and find something fun to do at the same time. It’s like a mothers dream.”

Rick Cernohorsky has been a member of the West Springfield Rotary Club for more than five years. The Rotary Club, whose motto is “service above self,” has been active in working with Burke Lake Park to improve the disc golf course for the last year and a half.

“We have put concrete pads at the tee off locations on the course and new signs that includes information about the clubs services at the top and on the bottom has the rules of the course,” he said.

The West Springfield Rotary Club currently has around 40 members, but is always looking to grow. “It’s a very positive, good group of people with a diversity of ages,” said Cernohorsky. “We go beyond our own needs to help both the local and international community.

Burke Lake Park has large open fields and outdoor volleyball courts. The park has three separate playgrounds, a carousel and a miniature train. Next-door is the 18-hole par 3 Burke Lake golf course complete with a driving range, practice putting surface, and snack bar. The 218-acre lake itself provides a host of activities.
