<b>Rowland, Yates Lead TC Boys</b>

Billy Rowland scored 28 points and Ryan Yates added 23 as the T.C. Williams boys basketball team defeated Riverdale Baptist 71-55 on Tuesday at The Garden. The win improved the Titans’ record to 4-1.

T.C. Williams also defeated Bishop McNamara 56-55 on Dec. 30.

The Titans host Patriot District opponent Lake Braddock at 7:45 p.m. Friday.

<b>Parker-Gray Game Moved to Feb. 1</b>

The Parker-Gray Memorial Game between the T.C. Williams boys basketball team and Kecoughtan is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 1 after twice being postponed due to inclement weather. Kecoughtan is coached by former T.C. Williams head coach Ivan Thomas, who led the Titans to the 2008 state championship.

<b>TC Girls Lose First Game of 2010</b>

The T.C. Williams girls basketball team lost at Chantilly 60-47 on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Titans’ record to 2-6.

"We have to keep trying to play together," T.C. Williams head coach Cavanaugh Hagen said. "We’ve struggled through a few games and we have to keep fighting."

T.C. Williams went 1-2 during the Waldorf Holiday Hoops Classic in Maryland on Dec. 26 and 28-29. The Titans beat Bowie (68-59) and lost to North Point (63-60) and Westland (50-42).

The Titans travel to face Patriot District opponent Lake Braddock at 7:45 p.m. Friday.

<b>Ireton wins Alexandria swim meet</b>

Bishop Ireton finished first, followed by T.C. Williams and St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes at the Tri-City swim and dive meet Tuesday.

Rachel Movius finished third in the 100 butterfly and 100 breastroke for SSSA. Caroline Blair took third in the 100 backstroke. Freshman diver Kelsey Stowers placed fourth.

The SSSA boys 200 medley relay team of Ferrel Atkins, Luke Frerichs, Conor MacNair and Parker Davis took second. The 400 freestyle relay team of Atkins, Joe Lindsay, Sam Teague and MacNair took second, and the 200 freestyle relay team (Lindsay, Teague, Frerichs, Davis) took third.

Individually, MacNair took first in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 butterfly. Atkins won the 100 backstroke and took second in the 200 IM. Other top-three SSSA boys finishers were: Lindsay (third in 50 free), Frerichs (third in the 500 free) and diver Robbie Long (third).

The Saints’ final dual meet of the season is Jan. 12 at St. Albans.

<b>MV Baseball Camp Approaching</b>

The 2010 Mount Vernon High School baseball camp for ages 7-18 will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Jan. 24, 27 and Feb. 7 at the Mount Vernon Field House. The cost is $125 for three sessions.

<b>Umpires Needed</b>

Northern Virginia Baseball Umpires Association (NVBUA) is in need of officials for baseball and volleyball. Umpires are needed for colleges, men’s leagues, high schools and youth recreational leagues. Experience is helpful but not required. Formal classroom and on-the-job training will be provided. Classes will begin in mid-February. Umpires are needed for all communities in the greater Washington D.C. Metro area. Support your local community's sports leagues by signing up.
