Counselors Honored as Outstanding Educators

Two Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education (ACE) counselors have been recognized for exemplary service to the community by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation, Inc.

Lorraine Obuchon of Great Falls and Maureen Simmons of Alexandria each received an Outstanding Educator Award for helping low-income adult students to overcome challenging life circumstances and move into stable careers.

Obuchon and Simmons received their awards from foundation board member Mary Ann Hovis, who praised the ACE counselors for 10 years of leading Education for Independence, a program that combines job skills training with career and personal counseling to empower individuals who are single heads of households.
