Five questions with Yorktown senior rower Paige Monborne

Q: What location is the farthest from the Washington D.C. metro area that you’ve traveled?

A: I’ve been to Finland and Estonia before. We have family friends over in Finland and we went to visit them.

Q: Who is your favorite music artist?

A: I really like Ben Folds. He’s kind of a folk-indie sound. I also like rap and a lot of the hip-hop stuff for when I work out, but I like to mellow out with some Ben Folds.

Q: In a short summary, how would you describe crew to a newcomer?

A: It’s a huge time commitment but it makes you focus. It gives you motivation. It’s like a different lifestyle, almost. You get into it and you just keep going. It makes you really appreciate exercise.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about the transition to college?

A: Meeting a bunch of new people.

Q: What’s the best feeling you can have while competing in a regatta?

A: When you walk through a boat. When you’re racing and you just pull up and walk away from the boat, you leave them in the dust. It’s indescribable.
