<b>Basketball Rivalry Matchups</b>

The West Potomac boys basketball team will host Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 2. The Wolverines are the defending Patriot District champion and the Majors are the defending National District champion.

The Mount Vernon girls will host West Potomac at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 3. The Majors are led by first-year head coach Courtney Coffer, who took over for Terry Henderson, now the Edison boys head coach.

<b>Aces To Host Family and Volunteer Night</b>

The Alexandria Aces of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League will hold a "Host Family and Volunteer Appreciation Night" from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Union Street Public House in Old Town. Host families will be recognized and fans will get to meet new Aces head coach Corey Haines. Admission is free to the public. There will be free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free Alexandria Aces coffee cup.

<b>West Potomac Fall Awards</b>

West Potomac High School held the Fall Sports Awards Banquet on Nov. 16 to honor our fall athletes and coaches.

The fall season scholar athletes were Mark Hanak, cross country, and Toni O’Boyle, field hockey. This award is given to a male and female senior athlete who each earn a varsity letter, a 3.5 or better GPA for the first quarter and contributes significantly to their sport and school. Nominations are submitted and voted on by head coaches.

Team MVP awards were given to: Ben Aleixo (boys cross country), Sarah Jane Underwood (girls cross country), Lisa Kinston (cheerleading), O’Boyle (field hockey), Jalen Dawson (football), Alex Cheng (golf) and Angela Robinson (volleyball).

Coaches awards were given to: Brady Corum (boys cross country), Colleen Boyle (girls cross country), Caitlin Stewart (field hockey), Dan Carriker (football), Angela Longo (golf) and Cat Royka (volleyball).

<b>Running Club on Sundays</b>

The Mount Vernon Milers running club meets at 8 a.m. on Sundays. The group usually meets along the Potomac River, but the exact location is listed in an e-mail sent every Wednesday for the coming week. Distances vary but runners can expect between four and eight miles.
