The Twig, the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, is having its 69th Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour & Artisan Show on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Nationally known interior designer Barry Dixon is the honorary chair of this year’s tour. Six private residences and gardens in Old Town will be open to the general public. In addition to the homes, the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary will be open for tours at a reduced admission price for those showing a homes tour booklet.
The Artisan Show will be held at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature handcrafted works by local artists and Dixon’s new book, Barry Dixon Interiors. Dixon will sign his book from 3 to 4 p.m. for anyone purchasing a copy at the show.
Handcrafted sterling silver and beaded jewelry, pottery and ceramics, patchwork handbags and home items, watercolors and knit designs are a few examples of items that will be sold at the Artisan Show. Hand made note cards, chocolate and pretzel favors, silk flower arrangements, and leather and suede accessories will also be available for purchase. Each artisan has donated an item for a raffle that will be held on Sept. 25. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased at the Artisan Show. Fall plants from Holly Wood & Vine will be on sale, with 30 percent of the proceeds donated to The Twig.
On sale at the Artisan Show will be Always in Good Taste, The Twig’s new cookbook and the 2010 White House Christmas Ornament.
Home tour tickets can be purchased in advance for $30. To purchase tickets online, visit www.thetwig.org. Tickets may be purchased at The Ramsay House Visitors Center, 221 King Street and The Twig Thrift Shop, 106 North Columbus Street. On tour day, the ticket price is $35 and may be purchased at the above locations, at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, 316 South Royal Street, and at any of the tour homes marked by The Twig Pineapple.
All proceeds benefit Inova Alexandria Hospital and will go towards The Twig’s most recent pledge, The Twig Patient Care Center, a 24-patient room addition for post-surgical patients. Since its founding in 1933, The Twig has raised over $2.5 million for hospital projects and programs.
