Sports Briefs: W-L Boys Win Swim Districts

The Washington-Lee boys’ swim team won the National District title, posting a score of 404 during the championship meet Jan. 26-28 at Yorktown Aquatic Center.

Yorktown finished second with a score of 399, followed by Falls Church (322), Stuart (314), Hayfield (199), Edison (180), Mount Vernon (173) and Wakefield (101).

W-L senior Carl Buergler won the 1-meter diving title with a score of 514.25.

Yorktown senior Will Tarkenton won the 100-yard backstroke title with a time of 56.17. The Patriots 200-yard medley relay (Jason Henley, Tarkenton, David Emson, Max Fish) won a district title with a time of 1:44.14.

Yorktown Wins Girls’ Swim Districts

The Yorktown girls’ swim team captured the National District crown with a score of 673.5. Washington-Lee finished second with 374 points, followed by Falls Church (317.5), Mount Vernon (159), Edison (152), Stuart (151), Hayfield (139) and Wakefield (69).

The Yorktown 200-yard medley relay (Abigail Young, Lauren Allard, Amanda Didawick, Ellie Belilos) won a district title with a time of 1:53.75. The 200 freestyle relay (Romano, Belilos, Young, Mason Nassetta, 1:41.71) and 400 freestyle relay (Didawick, Romano, Grace Greenwood, Mason Nassetta, 3:44.84) also won district crowns.

Senior Stephanie Romano won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.77) and 500 free (5:15.58), Young won the 200 IM (2:15.1) and 100 backstorke (1:00.13), Belilos won the 50 freestyle (25.37) and Allard won the 100 freestyle (56.45).
