Aces’ Buccilli Named CRCBL Player of the Week

Alexandria Aces outfielder Alex Buccilli was named Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week for the extended first week of the season.

Buccilli, a junior at Coastal Carolina University, went 13 for 32 (.406) with two doubles, a triple and two home runs from June 6-17.

Buccilli and the Aces were 7-5 entering action on June 20. Alexandria was tied for fourth place in the 10-team league, two games behind the first-place Rockville Express.

Kevin Francke (Trinity) is hitting .308 for the Aces. On the mound, the team has four pitchers who have thrown at least 10 innings with an ERA less than 4.00 --- Colin Milon (0.69), Ronnie Glenn (1.80), A.J. Rosenthal (2.70) and Brian Leon (3.60).

Alexandria will host Silver Spring-Takoma at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21.

Youth Volunteer Coaches Needed

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is seeking volunteers to coach youth baseball, softball, field hockey, swimming, track and field, rugby, summer basketball and football. Alexandria Titans Youth Tackle Football Registration

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities; Centers, Playgrounds and Youth Sports Division is now accepting registrations for the Alexandria Titans Youth Tackle Football program. Teams are formed in the following weight divisions and participate in the Fairfax County Youth Football League: Anklebiters, 75 pounds, 85 pounds, 95 pounds, 110 pounds, 125 pounds and 150 pounds. Participants will be weighed and assigned to teams according to their weight and age. This program is for participants ages 7-16.

Registration fee is $30. All participants must have a Division of Motor Vehicles identification card upon registration. The Sportsmanship and Equipment Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 (Anklebiters and 75), Saturday, July 28 (85 and 95) and Saturday, Aug. 4 (110, 125 and 150). The Alexandria Titans Football Camp (free for Titan players only) will be held July 30-Aug. 2 from 6–8 p.m. at George Washington Middle School.

Youth Basketball Fundamental School

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is accepting registrations for the Youth Basketball Fundamentals School for boys and girls ages 5-12. The school will run on Saturdays from July 7 through July 28 at Francis Hammond Middle School located at 4646 Seminary Road. Participants will learn the fundamentals of ball handling, shooting, passing, dribbling and rebounding. Registration fee is $50 per child. Registration deadline is June 30 or as soon as sessions are filled.
