Marine Corps Pvt. Kevyn M. Beacom, son of Linda C. Beacon of Chantilly, and Thomas J. Beacon, of Chantilly, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Marine Corps Pvt. David L. Dougherty, a 2011 graduate of Westfield High School, Chantilly, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C

Marine Corps Pfc. Michael P. Davis, son of Natasha L. Ayers of Centreville, and Eric K. Woods, of Alexandria, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. James M. Lemberg, son of Cathryn Lemberg of Centreville, Va. and William Lemberg, of Arlington, Va., and fellow sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) formed a Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) committee. CSADD is a peer-to-peer mentoring program geared toward assisting Sailors in making positive decisions in all areas of their lives. Lemberg is a 2006 graduate of Westfield High School of Chantilly, Va. and joined the Marine Corps in August 2010.

Navy Airman Recruit Ian M. Tyson, son of Mary L. Davis of Centreville and Mikel R. Tyson of Centreville, recently reported for duty with Strike Fighter Squadron 37, Virginia Beach. Tyson is a 2006 graduate of Centreville High School of Clifton and joined the Navy in March 2011.

Marine Corps Capt. Sung C. Park, a 2002 graduate of Centreville High School, Clifton, Va., received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his professional achievement while serving as Tactical Air Command Center executive officer and Weapons and Tactics Training Program officer for Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 18, and future operations office, Marine Air Control Group 18, Marine Aircraft Wing Three from June 2010 to June 2012. Park joined the Marine Corps in May 2006.

Ashley R. Hendrickson is an Army ROTC cadet involved in Cadet Language and Cultural Immersion Training -- their first training deployment as a cadet. After a week-long training session at Fort Knox, Ky., the selected cadets are deployed to partner nations where they are immersed in the local cultures and languages. The selected cadets will spend three weeks involved in assisting with current Army missions that range from helping build community projects to teaching English to local children. They are not only getting a total immersion in another culture, but are also building positive relationships and helping the people of partner nations. Hendrickson is a student at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. She is the daughter of Heather Hendrickson of Cedar Spring Road, and David Hendrickson of Britteny Elyse Circle, both of Centreville. Hendrickson graduated in 2010 from Centreville High School, Clifton.

Marine Corps Pfc. Andrew R. Pethtel, a 2007 graduate of Centreville High School, Clifton, Va., earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.

Marine Corps Pfc. Arturo O. Campos Lopez, son of Mariluz Lopez Martinez of Centreville, Va., earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C. Campos Lopez is a 2009 graduate of Centreville High School of Clifton, Va.

Marine Corps Pvt. Christopher J. Housel, a 2008 graduate of Mountain View Alternative High School, Centreville, Va., earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.

Air Force Airman Brittany N. Smith graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Smith is the daughter of Alan and Lynne Smith of South Springs Drive, Clifton. She is a 2006 graduate of Centreville High School, Clifton. She earned a bachelor's degree in 2010 from Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Marine Corps Pvt. Gurtej Singh, a 2010 graduate of Westfield High School, Chantilly, Va., earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.

Army National Guard Pvt. Nicholas A. Rocha has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Rocha is the son of Mike Rocha of Flower Hill Court. He is a 2009 graduate of Westfield High School
