Arlington Military Notes: Oct. 24, 2012

Navy Seaman Recruit Morgan S. Peak, sister of Mia C. Peak of Arlington, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Justin R. Rodriguez, son of Denia M. Santos of Arlington, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Rodriguez is a 2010 graduate of Westlake High School of Waldorf, Md.

Navy Cmdr. Jeff Oakey, brother of Jon Oakey of Arlington, is currently deployed. Oakey along with fellow Sailors and Marines deployed aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18) are taking full advantage of the Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program offered on board the ship.

Navy Lt. Joseph F. Reardon, son of Marian L. Reardon of Arlington, and Michael P. Reardon, of Arlington, recently reported for duty with Training Squadron 22, Naval Air Station, Kingsville, Texas. Reardon is a 2001 graduate of Gonzaga College High School of Washington, D. C. and joined the Navy in May 2005. He is a 2005 graduate of U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., with a BS degree.

Air Force Airman Matthew C. Blitz graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Blitz is the son of Shari Crandall of Northwest Fort Clatsop Street, Bend, Ore., and William Blitz of Salem Heights Avenue South, Salem, Ore. He is a 2009 graduate of Wakefield High School, Arlington.

Marine Corps Pfc. Adrian Ferrufino Beltran, a 2010 graduate of Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Army National Guard Pfc. Fatima A. Stuart has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Stuart is the daughter of Tonya Martin of Carter Lane, Woodbridge. She is a 2008 graduate of Washington Lee High School, Arlington.

Navy Lt. j. g. Lincoln A. Nesbit, son of Holly and Lee Nesbit of Arlington, was recently designated a Naval Aviator while serving with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 120, Naval Air Station, Norfolk. Nesbit is a 2005 graduate of Yorktown High School of Arlington, and joined the Navy in May 2009. He is a 2009 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Blacksburg, with a BA degree.

Marine Corps Pfc. Gregory J. Seals, a 2011 graduate of Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Tusaine R. Williams has graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Williams has served in the military for five years. He is the son of Harold C. Williams of Fayette St., Philadelphia, Pa., and brother of Shashana T. Williams of Eighth St. S., Arlington. The lieutenant graduated in 2004 from Multi-Cultural Academy Charter School, Philadelphia, and received a bachelor's degree in 2008 from Albright College, Reading, Pa.

Air Force Airman Marcus A. Ward Jr. graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Ward is the son of Marcus Ward of South Glebe Road, Arlington. He is a 2009 graduate of From the Heart Christian High School, Suitland, Md..

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. James M. Lemberg, son of Cathryn Lemberg of Centreville, Va. and William Lemberg, of Arlington, Va., and fellow Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) formed a Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) committee. CSADD is a peer-to-peer mentoring program geared toward assisting Sailors in making positive decisions in all areas of their lives. CSADD recently held its first meeting and plan to meet at least once per month throughout the rest of the ship's deployment. Lemberg is a 2006 graduate of Westfield High School of Chantilly, Va. and joined the Marine Corps in August 2010.

Douglas J. Foss has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. The graduate received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Foss is the son of Douglas Foss and stepson of Ann Foss of 30th Street, Arlington.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Eric S. Strobach, son of Soraya F. and Walter F. Strobach of Arlington, Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Strobach is a 2010 graduate of Wakefield High School of Arlington, Va.

Anthony M. Leger has been awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend a host college or university. High school seniors from across the United States are selected after a competitive application process based on comprehensive tests scores, scholastic achievement, school officials' evaluations, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement. Leger is the son of Matthew and Lori Leger of North Littleton Street, Arlington. He is a 2012 graduate of Fork Union Military Academy.

Army National Guard Pvt. Matt D. Deegan has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. Deegan is the son of Natasha Deegan of 141st Street, Ocean City, Md., and brother of Jay Deegan of North Kensington Street, Arlington, Va. He is a 2002 graduate of Yorktown High School.

Robert E. Lee is an Army ROTC cadet involved in Cadet Language and Cultural Immersion Training -- their first training deployment as a cadet. After a week-long training session at Fort Knox, Ky., the selected cadets are deployed to partner nations where they are immersed in the local cultures and languages. The selected cadets will spend three weeks involved in assisting with current Army missions that range from helping build community projects to teaching English to local children. They are not only getting a total immersion in another culture, but are also building positive relationships and helping the people of partner nations. Lee is a student at George Mason University. He is the son of Lewis and Regina Lee of South Harrison Street. Lee graduated in 2008 from Washington-Lee High School.

Air Force Airman Kyle F. Titterson-Barry graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Titterson-Barry is the son of Janet Titterson of 58th Street, Newport News, and Dennis Barry of 28th Street South, Arlington. He is a 2010 graduate of Heritage High School, Newport News.

Marine Corps Pfc. Martell Wilkins, son of Army Master Sgt. Nancy Wilkins of Arlington, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Wilkins is a 2011 graduate of Northeast High School of Clarksville, Tenn.
